China Maritime Sailing Memorabilia Association Limited

History does not stop. It is very easy to lose tomorrow’s history from today's apathy.

http://www.maritimemuseum.co.nz

http://www.valenciavalencia.com/sights-guide/museums-listings/americascup.htm

CMSMA is  a group aspiring to acquire, restore, maintain and exhibit a very important piece of Chinese maritime history which is currently stored outside and deteriorating at a shipyard in Tsing Yi.

To this end we intend to set up a not for profit/charity venture in Hong Kong to purchase the relic, raising the necessary funds from charitable donations.

Our intended corporate structure is that of an Association within a Limited Company, the China Maritime Sailing Museum Association Limited (hereinafter the “Company”), to be governed by articles of association precluding officials and associates deriving any benefit from the company.

The purpose of the Company is to preserve, maintain and exhibit the first Americas Cup Yacht built in China, CHN 95 Longtze.

The charitable goal is to educate and inform the people (both local and visitors) about Chinese maritime history and tradition.

For the purpose of charitable status this falls under item b. advancement of education as per “I T Special Commissioners v Pemsel (3 TC 53)”.

While China’s participation and entry into international yacht racing is comparatively recent the Americas Cup is the second oldest international competition in the world and attracts considerable interest all over the world.

“The America's Cupis the second oldest international sporting trophy. The trophy was originally awarded in 1851 by the Royal Yacht Squadron for a race around the Isle of Wight in England, which was won by the schooner America.”

Many countries have preserved their historic yachts and put them on public display such as in Auckland, New Zealand. http://www.maritimemuseum.co.nz

And Valencia, Spain. http://www.valenciavalencia.com/sights-guide/museums-listings/americascup.htm

Longtze was the first Americas Cup Series Yacht to be built in China at the Long Ri facility in GuangDong. The yacht competed in 2007 with a Chinese and international crew and achieved one series win, an excellent result for a novice team.

The Association plans to acquire the yacht and will do so with funds raised by donation from benefactors in HK and China.

Once purchased the yacht will be refurbished in Hong Kong using local skills and facilities to exhibition standard as a static shore based tourist attraction.

It is our intention to put the yacht on permanent display at a public “free for entry” venue. An accompanying multi-media exhibit will document the history of sailing yachts in China up to the present day.

Future maintenance will be financed by ongoing donations from benefactors.

Full information is given in the documents.

It is very easy to lose tomorrow’s history from present apathy.
The yacht has no value as a sailing yacht and is anyway in very bad condition. Unless we act now the yacht is likely to be scrapped as it is uneconomic to restore her to racing condition.

Due to the charitable nature of this not for profit endeavor we have sought approval for the Association to be given Charitable status.
